Datacloud Energy & ESG Europe 2025 brought together top industry leaders, policymakers, and sustainability experts to explore the future of energy and environmental responsibility in digital infrastructure. JSA’s own Candace Sipos and Laurel Burton were onsite at the event and truly enjoyed the dynamic networking opportunities and insightful speaking sessions. 

It’s one of the top digital infrastructure conferences of the year when it comes to sustainability — and at just over 400 decision-makers in attendance — it’s the ideal size for deep, thoughtful conversations. 

From discussions on renewable energy strategies to regulatory considerations to carbon-cutting innovations, the event delivered valuable takeaways for the industry. Here are our top five highlights from this year’s conference:

Key Themes Explored for Sustainable Data Centers in 2025

The conference delved into pivotal topics shaping the future of sustainable data centers, including:

  • Innovative energy efficiency strategies​

According to Mark Acton, who opened and closed the event with key remarks, a few sentiments came up over and over throughout the conference: 

  1. Nuclear is coming. 
  2. Planning is critical, and the industry needs to get better at it.
  3. Multi-use data center / technology parks are needed. 
  4. Government organizations, utilities, data center operators, and end users need to have better, more informed 4-way conversations. 
  5. We’re not clear on where AI is going yet, so we have to keep talking to customers about it. 

Distinguished Speaker Lineup

The event featured an impressive roster of industry leaders sharing their expertise on sustainability, energy efficiency, and regulatory challenges. Speakers included Lex Coors of Digital Realty, François Sterin of Data4, Michael Winterson of EUDCA, and Daniele Paci from the European Commission JRC. 

Additionally, Miranda Gardiner of iMasons Climate Accord, Dame Dawn Childs of Pure Data Centres Group, and Cara Mascini of Switch Datacenters provided key insights into the future of sustainable digital infrastructure. In fact, women comprised more than 40% of the speaker line-up — an incredible improvement for our industry!
